The Elevator Shaft Structure Is in Place – Construction diary for the elevator

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, we reached a major milestone: the shaft structure for our outdoor elevator was installed!

This required a great deal of planning and coordination, as Lankwitzer Straße had to be closed to traffic for the installation. The shaft structure arrived by truck and was first lifted off the truck bed horizontally using a crane. Once the truck had driven away, the structure was laid down on the asphalt, then raised into an upright position and lifted into the air. It was then carefully lowered into place between the scaffolding and the building wall.

Positioning the structure required millimeter precision. While it was still suspended from the crane, hammers and chisels were used to maneuver it into position on the platform before it was finally detached from the crane and secured in place. Work continued immediately afterward, including the installation of the canopy. The exterior work on the elevator shaft structure has now been completed. Installation of the actual elevator system is scheduled to begin in mid-November.

A huge thank-you to all our members who helped make this step possible — from coordinating the construction work and directing bus traffic to providing food and refreshments. We couldn’t have done it without you!

We’ll keep you posted on the next steps!
